Tips for Best Results

Getting Accurate Nutrition Data

For commercial products, we recommend:

  1. Laboratory analysis - Most accurate, legally defensible
  2. USDA FoodData Central - Free database for common ingredients
  3. Nutrition calculation software - For recipe-based products

Understanding FDA Rounding

Our tool automatically applies FDA rounding rules (21 CFR 101.9):

  • Calories: Rounded to nearest 5 or 10
  • Fats: Rounded to nearest 0.5g or 1g
  • %DV: Rounded to nearest 2%, 5%, or 10%

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Don't guess values - Use actual data from analysis or databases
  2. Include Added Sugars - Required since 2016
  3. Use proper serving sizes - Based on FDA Reference Amounts (RACCs)
  4. Check your units - Some values are in mg, others in mcg or g

Can I use these labels commercially?

Yes, but you're responsible for ensuring your nutrition data is accurate. For commercial products, we recommend laboratory analysis.
